Dreena's Cookie Cult

Now and then I'll be desperate for a good old chocolate chip cookie or a peanut butter cookie, so my frugal self puts a crowbar in my matt & nat wallet and I buy a cookie. It is always, always a let down. So, lucky for me and my cookie lovin' family I braved last weekend's heat and made one batch of Peanut "Better Cookies and another batch of Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies from Dreena Burton's Vive Le Vegan! cookbook. Using an IKEA ice cream scoop to scoop the batter onto the cookie sheet yielded 13 cookies per batch. All 26 cookies were devoured in less than 24 hours (almost one cookie per hour)! They were sooo delicious! Bursting with goodness, and magical to look at.

A couple of days later I doubled the Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe. Again, the cookie monsters performed a snacking marathon. So, in an attempt to keep cookies in the house for more than 24 hours I QUADRUPLED the Peanut "Better" Cookies recipe (I added chocolate chips to the latter half of the batter). I am very happy to report that it is almost Wednesday and we still have alteast a dozen cookies.

Conclusion: Dreena Burton does not lie about vegan cookies tasting just as good as 'regular' cookies. WARNING: once you start baking these beauties you may never stop...

Hi Susana! Great blog...I love the format you picked!

Hmmm...Dreena's homestyle chocolate cookies are amazing. They are my favourite cookie recipe in her book!

Hi Megan...I've just finished baking a QUINTUPLE batch of Dreena's 'Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies'! I'll post the pic tomorrow. Two dozen are a celebration gift for one of my dearest girlfriends who gave birth to her 2nd son on Monday. The other 3 dozen are for us! Have you ever quintupled one of her cookie recipes? You go through a whole bottle of maple syrup. Luckily I've got a no frills up the street!

I've doubled batches, but never quadroupled them! Yikes, that's a lot of maple syrup. So expensive, but so worth it!
