no gadgets required; cooking in Guatemala

This is a Polaroid that Village Papa took of me April, '99. We were in Guatemala, doing volunteer field work for UNICEF and Plan
International.

This photo captures one of the highlights of my life, teaching these sisters how to prepare a North American pasta dinner. Not a fancy kitchen gadget in sight, just creativity and enthusiasm from all involved.

At the time, I would dream of 'someday' cooking with my kids...and now, it's my joy in life.

I'm sharing this moment because it's one of the pieces that make up my manuscript-in-progress...more to home.

Giving more thanks

The kids and I are all sick. Fiery sore throats. Puddles of mucous. Too many sleepless, endless, painful nights.

Thankful for daydreaming about amazing travel experiences.

Summer

I live in Canada. Awesome country, awesome ocean life, today with the wind chill it's minus 11 so I'm just feelin' a bit nostalgic about barefoot days. Ahhhhhh...

We are back from Super, Natural British Columbia. It was wonderful to see it through the eyes of an almost three year old and an almost one year old; highlights include: 'snow on the mountain', 'crows', eating as much sand as one could stuff into one's tiny little mouth, surfing in the rain.

It is humbling to meet new people, and spend time with treasured friends and re learn ways of being.
