AN URBAN MAMA'S TAKE ON NURTURING HER FAMILY

Saturday in the park...

...if you're a fan of the band Chicago, you know where I got the title to today's post ; )

Have been thinking a lot about Urban Vegan's wonderfully frank post from Aug. 16, '06. Reminded me of all the to-research/seek out/sample lists in my agenda book:

One of them is to learn more about Cafe Feminino. I've tried the coffee, it was just OK - I prefer my roasts dark. But, I'm still very interested in getting involved in this all female coffee co-op.

For our home consumption we always buy Fair Trade coffee beans, but out in the world, I'm ashamed to admit that I OFTEN get a 'tall' java or a 'venti' green tea from you-know-where. Sadly because there are no fair options within walking distance from my house.

Have you ever roasted your own? I thought it would be awesome and make my house smell good.. It made my house fill up with smoke and the smell was awful, but the taste... was amazing. Of course, you still have to buy the beans from the fair trade, organic, but it's very cool to control the roast. I love dark roasts too...

btw, where can I email my nursing essay... sadly, I don't think I have any public nursing photos, although I nursed anywhere and everywhere... but I'd love to write a bit about it... as I am a huge BF advocate.. I exclusively bf both my kids.. my first son til 16 months and my second til the age of 2.. (exclusively meaning neither of them ever had formula.. they both ate food when they were old enough)

i'm a dark coffee kind of girl & try to get fair trade - not always easy. like you, urban's recent post has been on my mind -- certainly thought provoking.

Hi Melody, *YES* we did roast a bag's worth from Merchants of Green Coffee. Exactly like you, the house filled up with smoke, but the taste was great. I'm just laughing remembering that experience. We liked the idea of roasting, BUT the overwhelming smokeiness of the house helped us decide that roasting isn't for us ; )

Great that you'll write a bf essay! You can email it directly to me at: susana@gahan.ws

Hi Vicki, we just finished brewing a late afternoon pot of 'Kick Ass' from Kicking Horse Coffee. It was the first time we were trying it. If it's available in the US I **highly** recommend it!
